American Indian tribes and their supporters will rally to oppose the Utah Legislature passing a resolution denouncing President Obama designating a new national monument in the state. More than two-thirds of Utahns support the designation.
Simultaneous rallies in favor of Bears Ears being designated a national monument will be held at the State Capitol in SLC and at the Monument Valley Welcome Center in San Juan County.
The Utah Diné Bikéyah and tribal leaders are calling for the monument as Legislature meets to vote on a resolution opposing the designation.
According to the tribal leaders news release: "Today’s rally will reaffirm that the Tribes want President Obama to protect sacred sites and honor ancestral lands by designating Bears Ears National Monument."
